Following the Governments announcement on 22 February that sets out a roadmap to come out of lockdown, the National Youth Agency (NYA) have published their updated guidance document that sees the Youth Sector restrictions ease over the same period.

Roadmap Step 3 from 17 May 2021 (in England)

From the 17 May 2021 the youth sector will move to STEP 3 at the YELLOW Readiness level.

Following the Governments announcement on 22 February that sets out a roadmap to come out of lockdown, the National Youth Agency (NYA) have published their updated guidance document that sees the Youth Sector restrictions ease over the same period.

Roadmap Step 2 from 12 April 2021 (in England)

From the 12 April 2021 the youth sector will move to STEP 2 at the AMBER Readiness level.

From this date open access and drop in services can now open for INDOOR activities for ALL young people under 18 without limitation of bubble sizes. All venues and facilities should be carefully managed, risk assessed and subject to appropriate safeguarding measures, including Social distancing and wearing face masks.

Following the Governments announcement on 22 February that set out a roadmap to come out of lockdown, the National Youth Agency (NYA) have published their updated guidance document that sees the Youth Sector restrictions ease over the same period.

Roadmap Step 1B from 29th March 2021 (in England)

From the 29th March 2021 the youth sector will move to AMBER on the Readiness Framework for all outdoor activities. From this date open access and drop in services can resume for outdoor only activities for ALL young people. Young people accessing outdoor activities may only enter premises for personal welfare reasons (use of toilets etc). The use of such facilities should be carefully managed, risk assessed and subject to appropriate safeguarding measures.

Roadmap Step 1A from 8th March 2021 (in England)

From the 8th March and until the start of Step 1 B the youth sector will remain at Readiness Level RED. However, it will be possible to provide the following support:

Online and digital youth services to all young people (irrespective of need/vulnerability), Detached youth services and 1-2-1 sessions for high-need young people (indoors).

Following the Governments announcement on 4 January that England would go into lockdown from 6 January, the National Youth Agency (NYA) released an update on their  COVID Guidance for the Youth Sector. 


** From 5th January 2021 NYA confirmed that the youth sector moves into RED in the readiness framework. **

COVID Guidance Update from National Youth Agency (NYA) 


**Please note, from Wednesday 2nd December, England has moved from lockdown back into the regional tier system. From this point, the NYA Guidance has changed to Version 4** 


The NYA updated guidance document ‘Managing Youth Sector Activities and Spaces during COVID-19 (Version 4 - December 2020) is downloadable from the NYA website.  A guidance webinar by the NYA is also available to watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/aJON1KPzxME

** Despite the recent change to social gathering restrictions (13th October 2020) we confirm that as an essential service, youth sector activity can continue unchanged where COVID secure to NYA guidance standards **
